37th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols

Welcome to Whistler’s 37th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols! The service will look a bit different this year, but you’ll be able to enjoy all of your favourite moments: readings from community members, pieces sung by the Whistler Singers, and, of course, the congregational carols you know and love.

We’ve attached the program below for you to download – you can see the line-up of songs and readings, and you’ll find all of the lyrics to our congregational carols!

We have so many people to thank for making this performance possible! Thank you to our readers for bringing their passages to life, and thanks to the Whistler Public Library for allowing us to film our readers in the Fireplace Lounge. Thank you to the singers – they have been wonderfully adaptable, and sang so beautifully, masks and all. Thank you to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler for providing rehearsal space leading up to our recording sessions.

A huge thank you to our videographers and producers, Hailey Elise and Ollie Jones. They were willing to pivot along with us as safety protocols changed again and again throughout the fall, and they absolutely brought our vision to life!

And, thank you to all of you at home! We hope you enjoy watching our service from the comfort and safety of your homes, and we really hope to see you in person on Christmas Eve 2021.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve is one week away!

Can you believe that Christmas Eve is one week from today? December has gone by so quickly, and it has been a strange one for us. Normally, by this time of year, we would have hosted our Christmas Concerts for both the Whistler Singers and Whistler Children’s Chorus; we would have begun our holiday gigs around town, singing carols at various hotels and on the Village Stroll; and we’d be gearing up for our in-person Christmas Eve Service.

But, we’re so glad that we’re able to share some form of Christmas cheer with you! Our virtual Christmas Eve Service will be available on December 24 at 4 p.m. PST, and you’ll be able to watch (or re-watch) anytime during the holiday season. You’ll be able to find the video here on our website, as well as on our Facebook pages.

The program for the virtual service is attached here – you can check out the lyrics to our congregational carols (if you don’t have them memorized!) and see our line-up of local readers and songs selections from the choir. Download the PDF below.

A big thanks to Pique Newsmagazine for featuring our Christmas Eve Service in their Local Arts section! You can click here to read the article.

See you on December 24!

Join us this Christmas Eve – online!

The Whistler Singers and Whistler Children’s Chorus are excited to announce that our 37th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols will not be cancelled! Instead, we are working on a virtual experience that you’ll be able to enjoy from the comfort of your home. We would love to see you all in person, but your safety – and that of our singers – is of the utmost importance to us.

What can you expect? The Service will follow its usual format, with song selections sung by the choir, readings from Whistler community members, and all of your favourite congregational carols. We really hope you’ll sing along with us!

This online performance will be shared here at 4 p.m. PST on Christmas Eve. You’ll also be able to find the video on the Whistler Singer’s Facebook page and the Whistler Children’s Chorus Facebook page. We hope you’ll take some time to enjoy this performance with your loved ones, and share widely with family and friends.

See you on Christmas Eve!

Spring Concert Time!

It’s hard to believe that it’s spring concert season again! If you’re in Whistler and looking to enjoy some choral music, next weekend has lots to offer.

Coming up first on Saturday, April 27, The Whistler Singers will present “Sing into Spring”, along with our friends from the Inspirito Vocal Ensemble. The singers from Inspirito will be visiting Whistler from Gibsons, BC, and they are lead by the incredible Sarona Mynhardt. This concert will take place at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. on April 27, and admission is by donation.

Next up is the Whistler Children’s Chorus Spring Concert, taking place at Whistler Public Library on Sunday, April 28 at 5 p.m. The kids have been working SO hard this season, and they’ll be singing a great mix of familiar tunes and some newer choral works, all exploring the wonders of the natural world. This concert is free to attend and all ages are welcome!

We hope to see you at one (or both) of these great events!

Thanks to the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation!

You might have seen the photos below on social media recently – we’re celebrating a grant from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation. The Whistler Singers, Whistler Children’s Chorus, and Whistler Chamber Music Society are now the proud collective owners of a storage container for all of our sheet music, choir risers, and other musical bits and pieces. We’re very grateful for the WB Foundation’s financial support of this project!
