Holiday Happenings!

well, it’s been quite a while since we’ve posted here, but with so much happening this month, it seemed like the perfect time to speak up. Choir is back in full force for both the Whistler Singers and Whistler Children’s Chorus, and our singers are delighted to be singing in person once again.

The Whistler Singers will kick off our concert season with Winter Lights: Whistler Singers Celebrate the Season in Song. This event takes place on Sunday, December 11, 7 pm at Our Lady of the Mountains Church, and admission is by donation to the choir. If you can’t make it on the 11th, the Singers will offer an encore at Basalt (on the Village Stroll) on Thursday, December 22 at 5:30 pm.

The Whistler Children’s Chorus is 38 members strong this season! We also received an incredible donation from 100 Women Whistler, allowing us to put off a spectacular holiday show.

That show is Christmas at Rainbow, written by Bob Daly and Molly Boyd and first performed by the students of Myrtle Philip School in December 1984. This show tells the story of how Myrtle and Alex Philip came to build Rainbow Lodge, beginning with Alex’s chance meeting of John Millar in Vancouver in 1911. We’ve updated the script with help from the team at the Whistler Museum, and they’ve also provided archival photos that we’ll be using as our backdrops.

There are two opportunities to attend, at either 3 pm or 7 pm on Saturday, December 17. You can click here for tickets to either show, or visit the Box Office at Maury Young Arts Centre – they are $15 for adults, $10 for kids.

But we’re not done performing once those shows are wrapped! The Whistler Children’s Chorus and Whistler Singers are excited to be back in-person for the 39th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols!

Join us for this long-running tradition to enjoy selections from the Whistler Singers and Children’s Chorus, readings from familiar community members, and to sing along with your favourite carols.

This year’s event will look a little different, because it will take place at Whistler Public Library. This means space will be limited! Doors open at 6 p.m. and seating is first-come, first-served. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m.

We hope to see you at some or all of these events! Let’s make music together.

38th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols

Welcome to Whistler’s 38th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols! We’re coming to you virtually again this year, but you’ll be able to enjoy all of your favourite moments: readings from community members, pieces sung by the Whistler Singers and the Whistler Children’s Chorus, and, of course, the congregational carols you know and love.

We have so many people to thank for making this performance possible! Thank you to our readers for bringing their passages to life, and thanks to the Whistler Public Library for allowing us to film in the Fireplace Lounge. Thank you to all the singers – they have been wonderfully adaptable, and sang so beautifully, masks and all. A huge thank you to our videographers and producers, Hailey Elise and Ollie Jones. Once again, they brought our vision to life!

Finally, thank you to all of you at home! We hope you enjoy watching our service from the comfort and safety of your homes, and we really hope to see you in person on Christmas Eve 2022.

A Virtual Christmas Eve!

Another Christmas is nearly upon us, and you may be wondering about our annual Service of Lessons and Carols. For a variety of reasons, we’ve chosen to offer this event virtually again this year, and we hope many of you will tune in. Join us from the comfort of your home to enjoy selections from the Whistler Singers and Whistler Children’s Chorus, readings from familiar community members, and to sing along with your favourite carols.

The virtual performance will go live at 4 p.m. PST on Friday, December 24, and will be available to enjoy until New Years (and beyond). Find the performance at whistlerchorus.org, or watch on the Whistler Singers’ Facebook page or the Whistler Children’s Chorus Facebook page.

Christmas Eve is normally the time when we generate the most donations for our choirs. This has been more challenging while offering virtual performances! Our Christmas Eve Service will be free to view, but we would greatly appreciate donations of any amount to support our choirs. Visit https://tinyurl.com/2p8njhjj to make a donation of any amount!

37th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols

Welcome to Whistler’s 37th Annual Christmas Eve Service of Lessons & Carols! The service will look a bit different this year, but you’ll be able to enjoy all of your favourite moments: readings from community members, pieces sung by the Whistler Singers, and, of course, the congregational carols you know and love.

We’ve attached the program below for you to download – you can see the line-up of songs and readings, and you’ll find all of the lyrics to our congregational carols!

We have so many people to thank for making this performance possible! Thank you to our readers for bringing their passages to life, and thanks to the Whistler Public Library for allowing us to film our readers in the Fireplace Lounge. Thank you to the singers – they have been wonderfully adaptable, and sang so beautifully, masks and all. Thank you to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler for providing rehearsal space leading up to our recording sessions.

A huge thank you to our videographers and producers, Hailey Elise and Ollie Jones. They were willing to pivot along with us as safety protocols changed again and again throughout the fall, and they absolutely brought our vision to life!

And, thank you to all of you at home! We hope you enjoy watching our service from the comfort and safety of your homes, and we really hope to see you in person on Christmas Eve 2021.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve is one week away!

Can you believe that Christmas Eve is one week from today? December has gone by so quickly, and it has been a strange one for us. Normally, by this time of year, we would have hosted our Christmas Concerts for both the Whistler Singers and Whistler Children’s Chorus; we would have begun our holiday gigs around town, singing carols at various hotels and on the Village Stroll; and we’d be gearing up for our in-person Christmas Eve Service.

But, we’re so glad that we’re able to share some form of Christmas cheer with you! Our virtual Christmas Eve Service will be available on December 24 at 4 p.m. PST, and you’ll be able to watch (or re-watch) anytime during the holiday season. You’ll be able to find the video here on our website, as well as on our Facebook pages.

The program for the virtual service is attached here – you can check out the lyrics to our congregational carols (if you don’t have them memorized!) and see our line-up of local readers and songs selections from the choir. Download the PDF below.

A big thanks to Pique Newsmagazine for featuring our Christmas Eve Service in their Local Arts section! You can click here to read the article.

See you on December 24!
